Rapid Prototyping - Spotify & YouTube desktop redesign
This project was done within 4 weeks. Throughout this project, I was able to learn the process of prototyping, reviewing and refining. I created medium-fidelity prototypes and reviewed them with my peers and received feedback. For this project, I focused on 20% of the functionality that will be used 80% of the time for the two main desktop screens for Youtube and Spotify.
Here are a few initial observations I made about the two current screen interfaces. Based on the observations, I conducted user testing and interviewed a variety of users. I analyzed the feedback and applied to the final design.
Spotify Final Design
This is the final design for Spotify. The UI is inconsistent with the current brand, but it uses space more efficiently. I incorporated being able to minimize the playlist and the friends sections. Additionally, I added the queue on the side so it is visible all the time and integrated closed captioning for accessibility features
Spotify Before and After
Comparison of the old design with the new design. We can conclude that the new design is visually more pleasing, and utilizes the the interface space for efficiently. Lastly, Spotify's features are more apparently and customizable.
Similarly, I made a few initial observations about the two current screen interfaces for YouTube. Based on the observations, I conducted user testing and interviewed a variety of users. I analyzed the feedback and applied to the final design.
YouTube Final Design
The final YouTube redesign encompasses all the issues addressed previously. It has a similar navigation, avoids the long endless scrolls and simplifies the overall design.
YouTube Before and After
When comparing the new UI with the current UI, we can conclude that the new design has easier navigation. Additionally, the new design is able to display more content on the page. Also, the YouTuber page allows the YouTuber to customize their page with a banner and a display background.
